Just a couple photos from my trip to DevCon 2010. (Plus, I wanted to test out the new WordPress.com Slideshow feature. đ

70,000 Hits!
Woo-hoo! Another milestone!
Special thanks to the post Visual Studio 2008 Is Pretty Damn Slow⌠for giving me over 7,000 hits on its own! (Seems that people are still searching pretty heavily for Visual Studio 2008 being slow and how to fix it…)
Post to WordPress Bug?
Anyone ever seen this when attempting to use the âPress Thisâ bookmarklet with a large chunk of text selected?
Interesting to note that theyâre using LiteSpeed, as well.
WordPress.com: How To Embed Video
With the exception of YouTube, I always keep forgetting how to embed video into a WordPress.com blog post (hint: itâs not the embed code). Hereâs a handy little quick reference on how to embed video from different sources and how to embed other sorts of media:
What shortcodes does WordPress use?
[audio] converts a link to an mp3 file into an audio player. See full instructions here.
[caption] adds a caption to an image. See full instructions here.
[digg] embeds a voting button for your link on Digg. See full instructions here.
[flickr] embeds a Flickr video. See full instructions here.
[gallery] displays a thumbnail gallery of images attached to that post or page. See full instructions here.
embeds Google Maps. See full instructions here.
[googlevideo] embeds a Google Video. See full instructions here.
[livevideo] embeds a video from LiveVideo. See full instructions here.
[odeo] embeds an Odeo audio file. See full instructions here.
[podtech] embeds audio or video from the PodTech Network. See full instructions here.
[polldaddy] embeds a PollDaddy poll(use without the space). See full instructions here.
[redlasso] embeds a video from Redlasso. See full instructions here.
[rockyou] embeds a slideshow from RockYou. See full instructions here.
[slideshare] embeds a slideshow from Slideshare.net. See full instructions here.
[sourcecode] preserves the formatting of source code. See full instructions here.
[splashcast] embeds Splashcast media. See full instructions here.
[vimeo] embeds a Vimeo video. See full instructions here.
[youtube] embeds a YouTube video. See full instructions here.
Looks like itâs much more flexible than I thought, though it would still be easier just to support copy/paste of embed code (though, I understand why they donât do it, for security reasons, etc.)
Update: For some reason, DailyMotion didn’t get included in this list, but you can find the instructions here:
WordPress.com Front Page!
I think this may have been bumped off by now, but it was there for a little while!
You might need to click into the image to read it; I’m the second from the bottom on the left of the “News Departments” section, listed “In Technology” for the Gmail Blog: Outage Explanation article. Woot!
WordPress.com: How do I send out update pings?
This is really cool; I was trying to find a “fix” for the outdated instructions on Technorati.com to have my blog ping Technorati and found this article instead. Nice work, WordPress!
How do I send out update pings?
Many services like Technorati, Feedster, Icerocket, Google Blog Search, and many others want a âpingâ from you to know youâve updated so they can index your content. In most blog software and blogging services you have to manually go to different websites to send let them know youâve updated, and weâve had a few questions from people who want to know if they have to do the same on WordPress.com.
Nope! We handle it all for you. When you post we send a ping to Ping-O-Matic – http://pingomatic.com – which then distributes it out to 15+ different services, all automatically. We want things to be as easy as possible for our users, so itâs another thing you just donât have to worry about. đ
