Flock, Again?

March 24, 2008

So far, I’m as wildly impressed by Flock as I was the first time I installed it, back in version 0.7, as I recall. It’s made leaps and bounds since then, of course, but I’m curious to see if it will hold my attention longer this time than it did last time.

As I recall, the main point that switched me back to using Firefox solely instead of Flock was the lack of support for certain Firefox extensions that I’d grown accustomed to (Flock is based upon Firefox), but I haven’t checked their support yet, so I shouldn’t jump the gun.

In this newer 1.1 release, I’m particularly impressed with the ease of setup of my social networking services. I literally just logged in to each site and Flock automatically configured support for it. Now *that* is a killer feature to me. In addition, the integrated blogging client (which I’m using to type this post) is way better than the functionality I’ve found from Firefox extensions. I currently use Scribefire for Firefox and I’m consistently disappointed at the formatting bugs (wrapping lines at odd places, mungling tags, etc) when attempting to post to my WordPress blog. If it weren’t for those bugs, I’d probably post to WordPress more often. (Or if someone can suggest a better blogging client/plugin for Firefox.)

So far, with Flock, I’ve got a nice blogging client, and I’ve already integrated my Flickr, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, PhotoBucket and Picasa Web accounts…so far, so good. =)
